Skewer dials are individually made to order, which opens up the possibilities for almost limitless customisation. This section details those options, from the face colour/design, backlighting colour, notching style, font used, additional logos/text and various other aspects. There's no 'dial builder' here, that would only limit options and remove the personal service that Skewer provides. So, check the various options, ponder the ideas offered up, check out the Gallery for some examples of finished kits and let me know how Skewer can create your vision.

  • Dial Face Colour

The most popular choice for face colour is the ever fresh white, though more are choosing silver, black, carbon effect and brushed ali. Any number of choices can be had from a massive range of satin colours to more daring reflective colours, gemstone metalic colours, flourescent colours and the new copper, bronze and smoked silver finishes. Colours can also be mixed, such as white tacho with black speedo and fuel/temp gauges, or a main dial colour with another colour used in the center.

  • Backlighting Colour

The numbers and notches plus any other logos and text on the dials can be backlit in a number of colours. Blue is a popular choice, looking best with the original red parts, such as the redline and low fuel markers, kept red. Other choices for colour include red, green, cyan, yellow, purple and orange. Again, as with the face colour, these can be mixed and matched as necessary, or different colours can be used for design aspects of the dial such as rings, redline hatching, logos and so on.

  • Notch Styling

This is the main aspect of the design of the face. Standard dials normally have rectangular notches of varying sizes, but more often these days more shapes and compositions are being used. Ovals, dots, triangles for example, aswell as rings with notches of various style. The limit here is only your imagination - check out some of the ideas on the right for different layouts.

  • Fonts

The font used for the numbers and gauge labels can be almost anything, see below for examples of the most popular fonts chosen. When thinking of your design, any of these can be picked. As can, for that matter, any PC font available! Different fonts can be mixed or labels can use different fonts to the numbers. In choosing a font, the only practical consideration would be to choose one that's clean, simple and not too fussy

  • Logos and Text

There is usually space available to add a small logo or two, your nickname or monogram, or some choice words. With over 450 logos on file there's plenty of choice, and if you want one I don't have, we can easily get the artwork made up. Larger logos can also be used - choosing a similar colour to the dial face itself, logos can be spread accross the whole face or faces in more subtle ways

When enquiring about a dial kit, mention choices or thoughts for each of the above. In deciding what would look good keep in mind other colours you've got in your interior or exterior that would match up and keep in mind the ideas on the right - if you want to match a set of dials to some additional gauges you have, add a pic of the gauges to the email to get things started. There's also the opportunity to match up illumination colours with your headunit or satnav for a complimentary look.

At the end of the day, the choices are almost limitless, so don't miss the chance to order up a truly unique set of dials

Struggling for ideas? Why not have a set of dials in the same design as your favourite supercar, such as the Enzo, Veyron or Zonda...

Or match your dials to additional gauges you have fitted, such as Defi, Blitz or Autometer...
